Tuesday night on The Voice, Cee Lo Green and Christina Aguilera's artists made their live-round debut. Fans were asked to vote for their favorites after the show ended.
Adam Levine and Blake Shelton, whose artists performed on Monday night, joined Cee Lo and Christina in judging the performances.
Tuesday's two-hour episode began with Christina teaming up with rising pop duo A Great Big World for a live rendition of their recently-released collaboration, "Say Something."
Here's what else happened on the show:
Amber Nicole was the first of five consecutive Cee Lo artists to hit the stage. Her coach assigned her a song by former Voice winner Cassadee Pope: "Wasting All These Tears." Adam said Amber was a "little under" on the tune's big note. Blake, who mentored Cassadee during the show's third season, echoed Adam's point, but added that the performance was still good. Cee Lo said he wanted to associate Amber with Cassadee because the latter achieved success in the music business after leaving The Voice.
Up next was Amber's teammate, Jonny Gray, who covered the 1990s hit "Bitter Sweet Symphony," by the British rock band The Verve. Christina praised him for the accuracy in his vocals, though she agreed with Adam's minor criticism that Johnny was too "contained" in the beginning. Cee Lo called it the "right marriage" of a singer and a song.
Tamara Chauniece delivered a straightforward version of Gloria Gaynor's disco hit "I Will Survive." Blake said Tamara stepped up and did an excellent job with a tough song. Cee Lo said Tamara brought the type of energy the show needs.
Kat Robichaud tackled Mary Lambert's "She Keeps Me Warm." Afterward, she hugged a random person in the crowd. Adam said Kat has "seven gears," and she failed to show that final gear. Christina added that she could have soared a little higher on the notes. Cee Lo said the song demonstrated that Kat is a rocker with heart.
Caroline Pennell gave an intimate performance of the White Stripes' acoustic track "We're Going to Be Friends." In the oddest statement of the night, Blake said he could be mesmerized by Caroline's singing even if he was undergoing an amputation, or if she was belting out lyrics about killing people. Cee Lo said he can feel that America loves Caroline.
The spotlight then shifted to Christina's team. Josh Logan put an acoustic spin on "Crazy," by Cee Lo's group Gnarls Barkley. Cee Lo said he was flattered by the song choice. Adam worried that the performance got complicated at times. Christina complimented Josh for being so original.
Olivia Henken presented a countryfied version of the Katy Perry hit "Roar." Blake said it was a bold move but it worked. Christina said Olivia showed she was able to extend herself beyond the country genre.
Stephanie Anne Johnson was assigned Ray Charles' "Georgia on My Mind." Adam said he holds the song in high esteem but he enjoyed the fact that she kept true to the original. Christina noted the rich and unique style of Stephanie Anne's voice.
Matthew Schuler covered Miley Cyrus' "Wrecking Ball." Fortunately, he didn't have to ride on a wrecking ball while naked, like Miley did in her music video. Cee Lo joked that he hates how much he loves Matthew. Adam said Matthew lights a fire under him because it motivates him to get the most out of his team. Christina pointed out how much the crowd loved the performance, and she called upon everyone to vote for Matthew.
The youngest artist in the competition, 16-year-old Jacquie Lee, closed the show with "I Put a Spell on You," originally recorded by Screamin' Jay Hawkins in the 1950s and covered by several artists since then. Cee Lo declared the performance to be the "absolute best." Adam said it was "crazy" how good it was, regardless of Jacquie's age. Christina raved about how much Jacquie has grown as a singer.
The top 12 will be announced on a special results show airing on NBC Thursday night at 8 p.m. Eastern time.
